I went through the entire installation, including the enabling remote access steps. It looked a bit different than the 2016 installation steps, of course, but I can confirm a remote connection using a test udl file to the server. However I can't connect using DBTools. I want to make sure there isn't a fundamental incompatibility before debugging too much further, or attempting installing an older version of SQL Express. | |

Just note that in the SQL setup instructions, there's the section labeled: "Enable TCP/IP. Then double-click TCP/IP and the preoperties window opens". Make sure to enable Listen All, otherwise the instructions below for setting the port for IPALL won't apply. | |
| By: Guest | Posted on: Apr 22 2026 at 09:02:07 AM | If I'm not mistaken TCP/IP option is disabled by default on all Express versions of SQL Server. So that needs to be enabled.
Also, in SQL Server Management Studio select the sever properties and go to 'Connections' and ensure that "Allow remote connections to this server" is enabled. (That's also usually disabled on Express versions of SQL Server. | |
